BA First Investigators is an award scheme for 5-8 year olds. Schools and families that join the First Investigators network receive a pack of easy to use activities which can be used in science and technology lessons, at home or in a science club.
The activities are designed to develop the children's investigative skills, by introducing the ideas of prediction, fair tests, observation, recording and interpreting evidence. Each activity sheet includes notes for the group leader that explain the science background, safety issues, and equipment needed, and suggest ways to vary or extend the activity.
As the children successfully complete the activities, they can be entered for awards and receive a certificate and enamel badge to recognise their achievement. The awards are intended to help young people develop their sense of curiosity into an ability to question and investigate the world in a systematic way. The activities are also designed to be fun!
