Bright Young Minds Meet in London at International Science Forum
Kathryn and Ingrid at LIYSF 2006
Two young scientists from the UK recently won the opportunity to meet like-minded people from across the globe at the London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF). LISYF is a two week programme of lectures, demonstrations, visits to scientific institutions and social activities. The Science Forum each year brings together 250 students of the sciences, from almost 60 countries in the 5 continents.

Kathryn Ferris, Glenlola Collegiate School, Co Down and Ingrid Burt, Beeslack Community High School, Penicuik, were awarded the prize of attending LIYSF at the 2006 BA CREST Science Fair, held at the Royal Society, London. This Fair is an annual celebration for young people across the UK who have excelled in project work in science and technology.

Kathryn and Ingrid, along with the other LIYSF participants, lived together as an international community, exchanging their ideas and experiences of the world to fulfil the aim of the Science Forum: to give a greater insight into science and its application for the benefit of all mankind.

Kathryn commented on the Forum,"I had the most amazing, exciting and breath-taking two weeks of my life! I was encouraged and challenged by everyone I met and I had the privilege to meet truly inspirational young people. I also made many friends- friends who I’ll have for life."
