Science and Engineering Clubs on Teachers TV

As part of our extending good practice remit, we have made two programmes for Teachers TV featuring two of our clubs. The project has been jointly funded by The Gatsby Charitable Foundation and Teachers TV.

Newly-appointed head of science Gemma Beacon visits an excellent science and engineering Club with a view to setting one up herself.
The Newquay Tretherras School in Cornwall has one remarkable feature a giant geodesic dome built in the middle of the grounds which acts as a central concept that all the activities of the science and engineering Club revolve around.
Gemma identifies ten key concepts that could help in setting up a science and engineering club in accordance with best practice. She discovers that flexibility is as important as planning, and that incorporating ideas from students has led to the club's success.

Following a successful visit to a science and engineering club in Cornwall, newly-appointed head of science Gemma Beacon visits The Amersham School in search of further inspiration.
The Amersham School runs a science and engineering club so popular with students that there is now a waiting list to become a member.
Gemma, who is aiming to set up her own club, discovers how it appeals to girls, incorporates a robotics project, provides cross-circular focus and supports other departments.
Gemma also identifies seven key concepts that make Amersham's club an exceptional science and engineering club.
