Ideas
Food activity in an Science and Engineering Club.
Below are examples of sessions that have been run by various Science and Engineering Clubs. These are to give you a taste of the varied sessions that can be run in a club. It is always important to have some filler activities to hand in case the members finish faster than expected. Remember to leave time to clear up too, especially if your club meets at lunchtime and there is a lesson in the room straight after.

A Valentine-themed session
Other suitable activities include making lip gloss, making bath bombs or any experiments with candles.

Fizzy Rockets
This session can be made into a series investigating rocket power. Try balloon rockets, air powered rockets and water rockets (a safe outside space is required for water rockets therefore it is unsuitable for lunchtime clubs). The activity can be further extended by using pH paper or indicator solution to test the acidity of the rocket fuels and predict their rates of reaction.

Spaghetti Structures
A fun way to look at structure strength and design. This can be extended by building newspaper bridges to hold coins or eggs. Remember to remind the young people not to eat the sweets!

Felt Making
This is a good activity to link with making your own plant dyes. Wool to make felt can be purchased un-dyed then dyed with your plant dyes. If you plan over a year or term and have a school garden you can even grow your own plants to make the dye from.
