Bubble mixtures
Brilliant bubbles is all about trying to create bubbles of different sizes and shapes. You can buy bubble mixes, but you can also make your own.
We tried:
1 part Fairy Liquid (original)
12 parts water
1 part glycerine
Stir and leave overnight.
Ideas and case studies
We've consulted some of the UK's bubble makers, and they have some tips to share with you.
How you stir the mixture is important. Stir slowly, and our sources suggest mixing and adding ingredients at a steady rate.
Don't leave the washing up liquid bottle in sight of the children - you'll get bubbles everywhere!
If you don't get a decent bubble film, add a bit more Fairy Liquid and see what happens
For blowing bubbles, a humid, warm day is best - try just before or just after rain, or even in fog or mist!
More sharing ideas
Try making bubble creatures, by sticking bubbles together. You can do this more easily by giving the children a small tray of bubble mix and letting them experiment by blowing bubbles in the tray.
Try making bubble prints. It's a bit messy, but when you make your bubble mix, add some powder paints (tempera powder). Put the mix in a deep tray or washing up bowl and use a straw to blow bubbles in the mixture. Put paper on the top to take a print of the bubbles.
