Hot training
During the 2002 World Cup in Japan and Korea, the England team trained in frozen jackets incorporating Sportwool™ technology. The England manager, Sven Goran-Erikson, believed the revolutionary ice vests could help the England team cope with the extreme heat and humidity in Japan. The sleeveless white jackets were developed in Australia. They help the players last longer, run faster, sweat less and avoid dehydration.
Have you ever wondered how much you sweat when you exercise? And whether this affects your performance?
You might like to...
• find out about Sportwool™ technology (
www.sportwool.com
); explain how it works
• design and carry out tests to see if Sportwool™ technology works
• design and carry out tests to see how much other clothing affects people when exercising (for example, if it makes you hot; if it makes you sweat; if it feels comfortable)
• find out about the dangers of dehydration; find out how it can be avoided and what to do if someone is dehydrated; design a sports drink to help avoid dehydration
• find out about the dangers of training in extreme heat and humidity; develop ways of reducing the risks.
