Killing pain
Making pills
OTC pain-relievers are those that are available over the counter without a prescription, but they shouldn’t be used for a prolonged period of time without consulting a doctor. They should also be used in moderation – each one has a very specific amount of active ingredients; taking too much (overdosing) is extremely dangerous.

Have you ever wondered why OTC pain-relievers have the initials BP or Ph Eur after some of the ingredients?

You might like to …

  • Use standard procedures to work out if commercial products contain the stated amount of active ingredients
  • Use chemical tests or chromatography to identify an unknown OTC pain-reliever.
