Keeping fresh
Oranges
Health experts reckon we should eat five portions of fruit or vegetables a day. But how much is a 'portion'? Thankfully the government has recently spelt it out for us: one 'portion' is 80 grams of fruit or veg. Still confused? Well, a few examples are: one medium apple, a bowl of mixed salad or three tablespoons of peas.

Have you ever wondered how fruit is transported from one side of the world to the other?

You might like to…

  • Investigate the use of plant growth regulators on transported fruit before, during and after transportation
  • Find out about the methods used to control conditions during transportation, for example, humidity, temperature, CO2 concentration
  • Find out how fruit is protected during transportation – think about packaging, waxing, coating.
