Exercise
Workout
In 2003 about 15 million people made a New Year’s resolution to get fit and lose weight. But nearly half of them had thrown in the towel by February – at an estimated total cost of 335 million pounds' worth of gym membership, keep fit equipment and keep fit videos!

Have you ever wondered how fit you are? And have you ever wondered if a fancy fitness regime would make a difference?

You might like to …

  • Do some research into various different forms of exercise and find out what they do, and why they’re considered good for you
  • Find a group of willing participants and conduct tests to find their baseline levels of fitness. You can do this by taking their resting pulse before and after exercise to see how long it takes for their accelerated pulse rate to return to normal
  • Split the group into smaller groups and ask them to spend some time (perhaps a month) doing regular exercise. You could get some people to do, say, step aerobics, and others to do house gymnastics or go swimming. You could then take their baseline level of fitness again and see if their recovery times have improved.
