Mouthwash
Mouthwash
One of Britain’s highest ever drink-drive readings came after a north Wales alcoholic went on a 48-hour drink binge. On top of all the alcohol, the 40-year-old man drank two-and-a-half bottles of mouthwash (but still failed the breath test). He was jailed for six months, but has a lovely set of white teeth.

Have you ever wondered what mouthwashes actually do? Do they help keep your teeth clean?

You might like to …

  • Find out what ‘antimicrobial’ means, and find out why bacteria can be bad for your teeth
  • Compare the antimicrobial effects of different mouth washes. You could do this by seeding an agar plate with bacteria and impregnate discs with different mouthwashes
  • Work out what the best concentration is for a mouthwash. In other words, find out if it’s any less effective if watered down
  • Compare the antimicrobial effect of a mouthwash on different known bacteria.
