There seem to be loads of different shampoos and conditioners coming onto the market each year. Each one promises something different – some claim to mend broken hair, others stop split ends, some make your hair stronger. The shampoo industry is a big business; two years ago, a large shampoo company admitted to having spied on a rival company, in an attempt to understand the secret of perfect hair.

Compare the strength of hair when washed with different shampoos and conditioners
Treat samples of hair with different shampoos and look at them under a microscope; this can show you if the hair has been damaged (for example, split ends or raised cuticles).
