Robots
Robots are taking over the world! We’ve long been fascinated with robots and science fiction. TV and film often show them as hyper-intelligent human-like creations – just think of Data from Star Trek: The Next Generation, or Arnold Schwazenegger in the Terminator films. Well, experts believe that science fact is catching up with science fiction, and in the next few decades we’ll have robotic humans and human robots. Whether they take over the world and destroy us remains to be seen!
Have you ever wondered if you could build your own robot?
You might like to …
• investigate the use of robots and automated machinery
• design and/or make your own robot (for example, a robot that will vacuum the floor without bumping into walls; a robot that will collect cricket balls when you’re practising; a robot that can take an object from one room to another in your house)
• this project can be as complex as you want to make it. There are numerous things to think about. For example, you will need to find out about electronic components and circuitry, as well as how they can be joined together. You will also need to find out about different sensors and other means of making your robot autonomous (Artificial Intelligence, for example).
