Slip, sliding away
Fast-moving, free-falling rides always proves popular with punters at theme parks, especially if they’re full of twists and turns. And if you add water you’re really onto a winner! Two classic examples are the log flume and waterslides. Obviously, the height of the rides adds to the excitement, but it’s the water that makes the rides special.
Have you ever wondered how the water in a log-flume ride or waterslide affects the ride?
You might like to …
• investigate how the amount of water running down the flume affects the motion of the log-boat
• build a model log-flume and log-boat
• investigate how waterslides work; find out how powerful pumps have to be to push water round the slide
• design a waterslide, making sure it would work safely and effectively; you could try making a component of it, or a working model; you could also try to make a pump that’s powerful enough to pump the specific amount of water around the slide.
