Assessors expect all students doing a BA CREST project to demonstrate that they have:
1) Set themselves clear objectives
2) Been creative and produced their own ideas and developed them
3) Made use of sound scientific or technological principles including testing/evaluating and reviewing their work
4) Made use of and developed their communication skills in presenting their work to others
The assessment process is a combination of a review of the student’s Profile Form and interaction with the student.
Assessors confirm through questioning students that the project is the student’s own work and that they clearly understand the processes they have used. With team projects assessors establish what contribution each student has made to the project to ensure they have each contributed a fair share to all parts of the process.
To achieve a BA CREST Award, students must demonstrate that they have satisfactorily answered the questions on the relevant Profile Form. The questions differ according to the level of the Award and for Science and Technology projects. Assessors should look for answers to the majority of the questions posed.
Assessment of Gold Projects Completed Within The Engineering Education Scheme England (EESE)
Many students complete a BA CREST Gold Award by undertaking a project through the EESE in which case they will complete an EES Log-Book instead of a BA CREST Profile Form. The assessment for EESE – BA CREST projects will normally be arranged by a regional CREST Moderation Group member, in conjunction with local coordinators and the local EESE Regional Director, at the appropriate EESE Celebration and Assessment Day (CAD).
