the-BA : Dr Ian Gibson MP

Ian Gibson has been MP for Norwich North since 1997 following a career as an academic scientist. He is the immediate past chairman of the Science and Technology Select Committee which oversees the role of the Office of Science and Technology and investigates the reliability of scientific advice given to government.

Dr Gibson is a member of the All Party Group on cancer, set up to provide MPs with relevant and concise information on cancer treatment and research developments and to campaign for better cancer care for those who are affected by the illness, and chaired the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee, an interest group of MPs and Peers from across the political spectrum as well as key individuals from scientific bodies, science-based industry and the academic world. He has written a regular column for Science and Public Affairs magazine and taken part in numerous BA events.
