Beryl Allan

Beryl Allan has received the 2006 Sir Walter Bodmer Award for Volunteers, recognising both her achievements as part of a BA branch, and her longstanding contribution to public engagement in science.

Beryl is one of the founding members of the Leicestershire and Rutland BA branch, started in 1997. She is currently the Programme Secretary, having formerly held the roles of Chair and Secretary.  The branch development and event successes are testament to the commitment and effort of Beryl and the committee. She is a valuable ambassador for the BA in the East Midlands, having formed productive branch partnerships with universities, societies and other local organisations.  These links continue to enrich the branch programme, and the benefits are felt by their loyal core audience.

This award marks Beryl’s 30th year of volunteering, during which time she has broadened the appeal of science with many groups including the Women’s Institute, and the Workers Education Authority.
