Alexis Vlandas - Biography
Alexis Vlandas is a graduate researcher in the materials department at the University of Oxford. He studies the electronic and optical properties of filled single wall carbon nanotubes.

In September 2004 he won the British Association for the Advancement of Science "Perspectives" poster competition at the BA Festival of Science. His poster entitled "Nanotechnology: Opportunities, Risks and Choices" presented the societal and ethical implications surrounding his field of research. Since then he has given two talks at the European Social Forum in London and focuses his attention on the issues surrounding military funding of nanotechnology and various aspects of science policy.

Alexis spoke at the x-change in February 2005 at the Dana Centre.
