With the leaders of the G8 promising "a new dialogue" on global warming, July’s x-change, focused on Climate Change. If the increase in environmental greenhouse gases really is a "serious long-term challenge" for the entire planet, how should we respond as individuals? Is our Government taking this threat seriously enough? Is climate change really a greater threat than terrorism?
"One person flying in an airplane for one hour is responsible for the same greenhouse gas emissions as a typical Bangladeshi in a whole year."
Beatrice Schell, European Federation for Transport and Environment, November 2001
"The absolutely best case scenario - which in my opinion is unrealistic - with the minimum expected climate change... we end up with an estimate of 9% [of all species] facing extinction."
Chris Thomas, ecologist at the University of Leeds, January 2004, commenting on the effect of global warming on biodiversity
