Bursary Scheme
Networking at the Science Communication Conference
Bursary applications for the Science Communication Conference are now closed.

As in previous years, a bursary scheme is being run in 2008 to attract a wider range of delegates to the conference.

Awardees will have their conference fees paid and will be eligible for a contribution of up to £200 to assist with travel and accommodation expenses. The bursary also covers optional attendance at the conference dinner on Monday 19 May.

16 bursaries have been funded by the Wellcome Trust. A further 13 bursaries have been funded by the Department for Innovation, Universities & Skills.

Bursaries were awarded in the following categories:

  • UK science communication students
  • freelancers/microbusiness (less than 10 employees)
  • campaigning groups
  • scientists/engineers involved in public engagement
To be eligible for a Wellcome Trust-funded bursary, applicants had to show a substantial element of public engagement work in the biosciences or medical sciences.

Bursaries were also awarded based on how applicants intended to disseminate information from the conference to others in their field.
