The BA is managing 11 NESTA Fellows.

Philip Donoghue

Respected palaeontologist Dr Philip Donoghue gained a NESTA Fellowship to try to fill in gaps in our understanding of the developmental processes involved in evolution.

Martha Fleming

Artist Martha Fleming secured a NESTA Fellowship to investigate complex techniques in scientific observation - such as particle detection, spectroscopy and radio astronomy.

Kevin Fong

Dr Kevin Fong secured a NESTA Fellowship to research ways that the body's reaction to space flight can help in fighting diseases on Earth. He is returning his new expertise to the UK, benefiting research and education.

Sarah Gurr

Fungal biologist Sarah Gurr secured a NESTA Fellowship to explore new treatments for athlete's foot and ringworm, using plant-based oils. Sarah is also committed to improving her own communications skills in her quest to share her passion for science with schoolchildren and adult audiences.

Hugh MacPherson

Hugh MacPherson is a trained engineer, a practising acupuncturist and a senior researcher in Health Sciences at the University of York. Hugh’s Fellowship has allowed him to explore synergies between Western and Chinese medical practice, which will benefit patients with chronic problems.

Mark Miodownik

During his NESTA Fellowship, materials scientist Dr Mark Miodownik has established the EngineeringArt network, enabling artists, designers and architects to collaborate with materials scientists to set a research agenda for designing new materials in the 21st century.

Vinesh Raja

Eminent professor Vinesh Raja aims to develop the necessary skills to enable him to bridge the gap between clinicians and health informatics analysts. By using process mapping, networking and ethnographic techniques.

Tony Sherborne

Science curriculum developer Tony Sherborne secured a NESTA Fellowship to explore new ways of making science lessons relevant, contemporary and unforgettable, to stop the decline in the number of pupils choosing science after the age of 16.

Ken Skeldon

Dr Ken Skeldon's shows get people excited about science. With a NESTA Fellowship, he has the opportunity to build on his accomplishments and push the boundaries of scientific entertainment still further.

Dick Vane-Wright

An eminent scientist, recently retired as Head of Entomology (the study of insects) at the Natural History Museum. Dr Dick Vane-Wright secured a NESTA Fellowship to research ways of bringing together people of different faiths and beliefs for the common goal of saving the planet.

Mike White

An experienced development director for arts-in-health projects, Mike White secured a NESTA Fellowship to research community-based arts-in-health, and to build national and international links in this field.
