The BA Festival of Science
The BA Festival of Science Press Centre
Every year, the
BA Festival of Science
generates hundreds of articles in the UK press – in 2007, when the Festival visited York, there were almost 150 stories in the UK national newspapers, over 290 regional newspaper articles, more than 165 radio broadcasts and over 20 TV broadcasts.
Here is just a taster of some of the stories…
Identity and mistaken identity: face recognition in a surveillance society
X-ray vision: how synchrotron science could reveal the text in precious scrolls and books without having to open (and potentially damage) them
The speaking and singing computer – the threat of vocal terrorism
The influence of family circumstances on children – sibling competition in the UK
Earth’s fiery future – will climate change trigger more geological hazards?
Nice but naughty? – why do we crave chocolate, and could it actually be good for us?
The mystery of consciousness – what can contagious yawning tell us about the mind?
The BA operates a Press Centre at the Festival, providing desk space, access to telephones, internet PCs and interview rooms with ISDN lines. Registered journalists have access to embargoed speakers’ papers online before the event and are able to attend press conferences with the key speakers at the Festival.
For details of how to register,
email the BA Press Office
.
There will also be a press launch in London on Thursday 4 September, where key speakers from the Festival will preview their talks. Journalists can
contact the BA Press Office
for more information.
