Calling all budding scientists!
For Immediate Release
14 December 2007
The Young Scientists and Engineers Fair 2008 is a prestigious event that builds on the BA CREST Science Fair, celebrating outstanding projects completed by 14- 19 year olds across the UK. While 30 students participating have won their place to attend the national fair through heats at regional fairs, another 20 spaces are open to those that wish to self nominate their projects.
To self-nominate, students must have completed a project about some form of science, engineering or maths which involved over 100 hours of work. Students must be aged 16-19, so that they can qualify for several amazing prizes to prestigious international science fairs across the world.
There is a lot on offer at this year’s fair, with prizes to the US, Europe and New Zealand up for grabs, workshops, talks and a special guest lecture. There will also be some fun hands-on stands that can be visited throughout the day to find out about the other scientific institutions and awards available to young people.
The programme of events and stands has been co-ordinated by the BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science) in association with Young Engineers and some of the largest organisations in science, such as the Institute of Physics, Researchers in Residence and the Biochemical Society.
Self-nominations involve completion of a simple online form and submission of a 4-page report. These must be received by 21st December 2008. For further information, see

.
Ellie Chambers, Young People’s Programme Officer at the BA says:
‘The Young Scientists and Engineers Fair is a great opportunity to show and discuss your work with other students and scientists and to compete for some fantastic prizes. The chance to find out about other scientific institutions and awards, as well as talk to scientists about career opportunities in science and engineering is a real bonus, and attending can give future university and job applications a real edge.’
The BA would like to thank Research Councils UK, AstraZeneca and Lloyd's Register Educational Trust for their sponsorship.

Note for editors
1. The BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science) exists to advance the understanding, accessibility and accountability of the sciences and engineering. This means helping create a social climate in which science, and the organisations dependent on it, advances with the involvement and active support of non-scientists. We aim to promote openness about science in society and to affirm science as a prime cultural force by engaging and inspiring adults and young people directly with science and technology, and their implications. 2. The Young Scientists and Engineers Fair 2008 will take place at the Centre for the Cell in Whitechapel, London, on Friday 7 March, the first day of National Science and Engineering Week. For further details, please contact the BA Press Office.
3. The BA CREST Awards is a project-based award scheme for secondary-age students aiming to recognise and accredit students' achievements in science, engineering and technology. More information is available at
