Would you like a slice of science with that?
The science of beer - the first North Wales SciBAr topic (image copyright: istockphoto.com)
A glass of wine, a pint of beer and a piece of science. That’s what is now on offer every third Tuesday of the month at Fat Cats Bar in Wrexham. We are of course talking about the new sciBAr organised by the North Wales branch of the BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science).

If you have never attended a sciBAr before, they are a great informal way of finding out more about some of the hottest topics in science at the moment. After a short talk given by a leading scientist in the field, you can then ask the questions that matter to you, and all whilst enjoying a drink out with your friends!

How appropriate then that the first talk will be on ‘The Science of Alcohol’, given by Dr Belinda Bray from the University of Manchester on Tuesday 20th November, 7.30pm. Come along, listen to the science presented in an understandable way and ask your burning questions. SciBArs are free to attend and you simply turn up on the evening.

Caroline Polltt, branch secretary says: ‘Other topics planned for the future include the aging process, climate change, sexual attraction and forensic dentistry so there is bound to be an area of interest for everyone’.

The North Wales branch of the BA hopes to bring even more innovative science, engineering and technology events to Wrexham and other parts of North Wales and are looking for more volunteers to help them make this happen. If you have a little free time and an interest in science, whatever your background and experience, then please join us at our next committee meeting on 27th November at 7pm also held at Fat Cats Bar, Wrexham.
