An astronaut, an athlete and Einstein – marking the publication of the BA Festival of Science programme
The BA Festival of Science
really is well on its way. The launch of the printed programme saw Albert Einstein rub shoulders with an athlete and astronaut on the steps of York Minster, much to the amusement of the passers-by.
The programme details the full exciting line-up coming to York from 9-15 September and is now available, so you can hand pick from the jam packed schedule at your own leisure. From the latest research news and topical debates, to science cinema, exhibitions and hands-on entertainment, the only dilemma will be how to fit it all in.
To request a copy of the programme, email
festival@the-ba.net
or call 020 7019 4963. York residents and visitors to York can also pick up a copy at their local library or at one of York's Visitor Information Centres. The programme is also
available online
.
Joanne Coleman, Festival Manager at the BA (British Association for the Advancement of Science) says:
‘The BA Festival of Science is a great opportunity to find out about the latest scientific and technological developments from top UK scientists, as well as to join debates about issues that concern you. There’s also lots of fun to be had.
‘Among other things, we’ll be exploring climate change, including how Yorkshire might be affected and whether space science might provide answers; taking a look at how engineering can help give UK sportsmen and women a competitive edge; and asking how our attempts to live a 24/7 lifestyle affects our brain and why it’s important to take time out to unwind.
‘There will also be plenty of light-hearted elements such as ‘Upload!’ where local bands will perform alongside DJs and VJs; "Einstein in Art!" – a community art project to depict Einstein whilst finding out about some of his theories and ideas; and Film Alfresco – a unique open air cinema experience where classic and science-based films are screened on the side of the iconic York Minster.’
