Merseyside Branch
*
Merseyside is rich in science - historically, academically, industrially and culturally, this area has, and continues to have, a disproportionately large impact on science and technology. However, that impact often goes unseen or unappreciated by the majority of local people. The BA is there to redress that imbalance and promote an awareness of the role that science has in everybody's lives.

Of course, that is quite a task for any single organisation, so collaboration and networking are key. By working with and bringing together businesses and schools, universities and museums and anyone else with a contribution to make (whether they know it or not!) we really can make a difference.
So, if you are interested in science, or simply feel that you ought to be, then the BA are there to help.

2008 Festival of Science

This year is a particularly exciting one for the branch with the 2008 Festival of Science coming to Liverpool here as part of the Capital of Culture celebrations. As well as hosting the event, the branch is also redeveloping its programme of events starting with two rather different activities.

The Science Butlers: (In collaboration with the Institute of Physics and Artifice Arts).
Look out for the Butlers on the streets of Liverpool - Science at your Service.

Ask an Astronomer: (In collaboration with Spaceport and Liverpool John Moores University). Wednesday 10th September - evening event.
Where do stars come from? Is there life in the universe? Is there a "killer asteroid" on the way? What is a Black Hole? What is "Dark Matter", let alone "Dark Energy"? And what exactly do Astronomers do?  If you have ever asked yourself these or any other questions about the Universe, but have had nobody to ask, this event is for you. A panel of astronomers will attempt to answer any questions that you might have and perhaps raise a few of their own. Taking place in the spaceport" Astronomy and Space Visitor Centre there will also be a chance to explore the Centre and partake of a light buffet while admiring the stunning views of the Liverpool skyline across the Mersey.
