Fluorine’s reactions often involve fires or explosions, yet it is widely used,  It is incorporated into around one third of all drugs and plant protection chemicals, is the basis  of inhalent anaesthetics, Teflon and Gortex, is crucial in the nuclear industry and  modern electronics.  This talk explains why.

Stalkers - Types and Interventions

Stalking is now recognised as a significant social problem.  Although they may engage in very similar behaviours, different stalkers will have different motivations..  This talk will outline the main “types” of stalkers and explain why they stalk.

The Role of Volcanic Eruptions in Mass Extinctions

The largest mass extinctions all coincided with”flood basalt eruptions”, which were relatively quiet, effusive and very prolonged compared with the explosive eruptions seen at Mount St. Helens, but which covered vast areas and released prodigious masses of gas and aerosols.  This talk will address the challenges in understanding the causal links between eruptions and extinctions which have a bearing on our understanding of current changing climate system.
