The BA Festival of Science 2007
BA Festival of Science 2007 logo

The BA Festival of Science 2007 proved once again that the Festival brings science to a wide audience through the media, reaching millions of people. Stories appeared everywhere from the Financial Times to the Daily Mirror, and from BBC News 24 to CBBC’s Newsround. There was unprecedented radio and online coverage. ‘X-ray vision: exploring the secrets of synchrotron science’ was one of BBC News Online’s top 5 stories in September, while the Telegraph dedicated an area of their website to Festival stories.

The top ten most-covered stories from the 2007 Festival were:

1. The mystery of consciousness
2. Chocolate: nice but naughty?
3. UK's future in space (Science and Technology Facilities Council press briefing)
4. Non-stick chewing gum (Bristol University press conference)
5. X-ray vision: exploring the secrets of synchrotron science
6. Facing up to genetics
7. Disappearing selves?  Bodies, minds and place
8. Virtual human evolution
9. Professor Robert Winston - red-tape is holding up the progress of transplant research in the UK
10. The speaking and singing computer - will it ever sound human?
