the-BA : South West Launch

The host school for the South West Regional launch was Newent Community School in Gloucestershire. They were joined by pupils from three other schools in the region with around 30 pupils across years 7, 8 and 9 taking part in the day's activities. Each year group participated in challenges around the following themes:

Year 7 - Wind turbines (B&Q provided a wind turbine for the day)

Year 8 - Balloon buggies

Year 9 - Rockets

Certificates were awarded to the schools involved and after the group activities, all pupils and guests proceeded out to the playground to test the rockets built by year 9 pupils and see a display of chemical rockets.

Also in attendance were the local mayor, a number of school governors, the Director of the Science Learning Centre South West and one of the Science and Engineering Ambassadors that will be supporting the club.

Teachers all commented on what a great day it was and what a great opportunity it presented to meet up with other teachers and schools involved in the pilot.
