North West Region Launch Event
21/03/2007
The North West launch event took place at Deyes High School, Merseyside. Twenty year 8 pupils spent the morning undertaking a range of activities based around the theme of ‘bubbles’, including making huge and odd-shaped bubbles, working out the best formula for fire-extinguisher foam and floating unsinkable boats on bubble tanks.
The finale was a demonstration of the violent reaction between Mentos and Diet Coke, producing an impressive set of Coke fountains.
The event was co-ordinated by Dr Graham Clark, Director of Specialist Science College at Deyes High School and Tim Sibthorp Director of SETPOINT Merseyside. They were assisted by Science & Engineering Ambassadors from local industry, all of whom ended up rather sticky and foamy.
SETNET Regional Director for the North West, Kevin Burke, (who didn’t get sticky or foamy) formally launched the club, underlining the importance and relevance of science and engineering to today’s and tomorrow's society.
He encouraged the pupils to take the opportunity presented by the Sceince and Engineering Club.
Other consortium partners present were Secondary National Strategy and the Association for Science Education.
