  1. How do we sign up for CREST Star Investigators?

    CREST Star Investigators will be organised and administered through a network of local co-ordinators. Please contact your local co-ordinator to register.

  2. How much does CREST Star Investigators cost?
    • Star: £30.00
    • SuperStar: £35.00
    • MegaStar and Young Science Ambassadors: £40.00
    • Star and SuperStar: £50.00
    • SuperStar and MegaStar: £60.00
    • All three packs: £80.00

    • Additional materials: £5.00
    • Star, SuperStar or MegaStar Award: £3.00
    • YSA Charter and Badge: £3.00
    • YSA Charter and Badge AND MegaStar Award: £5.00

  3. I have send off my order with a purchase order and have not received my resource pack(s) yet?

    Packs will be sent out on receipt of payment. Please allow 28 days for delivery.

  4. How do we order extra Star Logs, CREST Star Investigators badges or stickers?

    Additional materials will be sold in sets of 10 for £5. Please contact your local co-ordinator to order these.

  5. How do we order the Award badges and certificates?

    Please contact your local co-ordinator. An Award costs £3.00 per child. A combined YSA Charter and Badge and MegaStar Award costs £5.00 per child.

  6. How does the scheme link to the curriculum?

    The links to the curriculum can be found online on the Additional resources page for each activity.

  7. How many activities do we need to complete to get the Award?
    • Star: Any 8 activities
    • SuperStar: Any 12 activities
    • MegaStar: Any 3 projects
    • Young Science Ambassador: Any 2 MegaStar project plus a Springboard project

  8. How long does each activity or project take?

    Each Star and SuperStar activity will normally take 45 minutes to an hour.

    Each MegaStar project will normally take 5 hours.

  9. Do children have to complete the activities in a certain order?

    No. You can complete the activities in any order.

  10. Can children work individually?

    Yes, the children can work individually. However, CREST Star Investigators activities/projects encourages children to discuss their ideas and work together, just like scientists do in their work. If a child is working alone, discussion can take place with adults instead.

  11. Do I need to re-register on an annual basis?

    No. You do not need to re-register. Once your school/organisation has registered for the scheme, you can photocopy the ACTIVITY CARDs to be used with your children. However, please note that the Resource pack is only meant to used by your school/organisation and not meant to be passed to others.

  12. Can any age group use any resource pack?

    Yes. The ages given are only a guideline. If you think that the activities are suitable for your children you can register for the scheme. The ages only appear in the materials for Organisers.

  13. Is CREST Star Investigators suitable for children with special educational needs?

    Yes. The materials have an emphasis on discussion and doing science, rather than writing and recording. Children can also be encouraged to work with others having different skills.

  14. Can children start their SuperStar or MegaStar Award without completing Star?

    Yes. Even though CREST Star Investigators activities have a strong emphasis on progression, with each level buiding on skills developed in the previous, it is not compulsory for children to complete one Award before progressing to the next.

  15. Can I photocopy the Star Logs for the children?

    No, the Star Logs are not designed to be photocopied. You are encouraged to purchase the Additional materials which will be available in sets of 10. The Additional materials will include 10 Star Logs, 10 CREST Star Investigators badges and stickers for the Star Logs.
