Selection
When all the applications come in the BA collates all eligible application forms and makes a shortlist which is passed onto the media hosts.  You will be shortlisted based on the eligibility criteria and on the ways in which you hope to benefit from a placement.

  • Each host will select on different criteria depending on what they are looking for in a Fellow. For example, a host may have a particular article or project in mind when choosing a Fellow so will base their decision on your background.
NOTE: Please give full details of your current field or discipline.  Hosts are looking at how you communicate what you work on so try not merely to list your research interests/area.
  • Hosts may be looking for someone who can communicate information in an interesting and imaginative way.
NOTE: Use the application form to show that you can present information in interesting ways and can think creatively.
  • Hosts may be looking for someone who has had a bad experience with the media in the past and want to teach you how not to make the same mistakes again.
NOTE: Be honest about your previous experiences of the media.  Hosts are not just looking for applicants who are already well experienced in dealing with journalists; one key aim of the Fellowships is to give you the skills to work with the media again when you return to your full time job.
