Jim Al Khalili - Biography
Jim Al-Khalili is a theoretical nuclear physicist and senior lecturer in the Department of Physics at the University of Surrey where he teaches relativity theory, quantum physics, mathematics and computer modelling. His research takes him around the world where he works with collaborators on unravelling the mysteries of the atomic nucleus.

Jim has been for a number of years active in communicating science to the public and is a member of the BA Council. He is author of four popular science books that have to date been translated into twelve languages. In 2000, he received the UK Institute of Physics Public Awareness of Physics Award for his various efforts and was elected Fellow of the Institute in the same year. He has written numerous newspaper and magazine articles on a range of topics in modern physics and has delivered over 100 public lectures around the world.

Jim is a regular contributor to BBC radio and has been involved in a number of TV documentaries. In 2004, he was chosen as one of 21 Faces of Science exhibited in London’s National Portrait Gallery.
