the-BA : Evan Harris Biography

Dr Evan Harris graduated as a doctor from Oxford in 1991. He worked in acute hospital medicine until 1994, then in public health medicine until 1997. He was a member of the National Council of the BMA from 1996-1997.

Following his election to Parliament in 1997, he was junior NHS spokesman, then spokesman on Higher Education, Science and Women's Issues. Upon his re-election in 2001, Dr Harris was until recently Shadow Health Secretary.

He is a member of the BMA Medical Ethics Committee and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Kidney Group.

Evan spoke at the x-change in October 2003, February 2004 and March 2005 at the Dana Centre.
