Severe weather warning: Communicating danger and disaster
Thursday 6 May 2004, Our Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh.

Recent extreme weather conditions have highlighted just how susceptible many of us are to the elements.  What are the risks associated with severe weather such as flooding, high winds or cold snaps? How can we best communicate these risks to different communities?  Who is ultimately responsible for ensuring that the messages have been heard and understood?

Speakers

  • Ewen McCallum, Chief Meteorologist, the Met Office
  • David Faichney, Leader of the Flood Warning Development Team, Scottish Environment Protection Agency
  • Irene Lorenzoni, Centre for Environmental Risk, University of East Anglia
