Biography Dr Paul Martin
Dr Paul Martin, Senior Lecturer and Acting Director of the Institute for the Study of Genetics, Biorisks and Society, University of Nottingham.

 

Paul was originally trained as a molecular biologist, has a BA in Zoology from the University of Cambridge and carried out three years postgraduate research in mammalian developmental biology for the MRC. He subsequently worked for a number of NGOs on health policy issues before gaining an MSc in Sociology and Social Policy from Southbank Polytechnic and a DPhil in Science and Technology Policy Studies at SPRU, University of Sussex.

 

He is Senior Lecturer and Acting Director of the Institute for the Study of Genetics, Biorisks and Society at the University of Nottingham. His research interests include the sociology of emerging medical technologies, innovation in the biotechnology industry and the social and public policy issues raised by the new genetics. He is Principal Investigator on two major grants: The Clinical and Commercial Development of Pharmacogenetics (funded by the Wellcome Trust) and The Impact of Genomics on Innovation in the Pharmaceutical Industry (funded by the Economic and Social Research Council).
