The West Midlands Branch was relaunched (then as the Birmingham Branch) in 1997.
In addition to organising lectures and visits, the Branch collaborates with “Thinktank”, the Birmingham Science Museum, in the “Contemporary Science” series of events (details at http://www.thinktank.ac/)
The Annual Prestige Lecture is the highlight of the programme with Lord Winston and Lord May as recent speakers. For the 2007 Prestige Lecture the Branch was delighted to welcome Frances Cairncross as our speaker. BA President in 2005, Rector of Exeter College, Oxford, journalist, broadcaster and economist, she spoke on the topic of Climate Change but focusing on the social science and economic aspects and then responded to an extensive series of questions from the audience.
