The Branch was formed in 1999. Since then we have organized annual programmes featuring lectures, discussion events and excursions.
Our strategy is to organise a range of different events in partnership with other relevant organisations. We draw significantly on the science talent available locally in Aberdeen and think creatively about involving wide audiences.
During the summer of 2006 we sponsored a sell-out session at Aberdeen’s ‘WORD’ festival on the best-selling book ‘Does anything east wasps?’ and co-organised a packed discussion forum on the topic of ‘Nutritional supplements: to take or not to take that is the question’ in collaboration with the Nutrition Society, the Rowett Institute and The Robert Gordon University.
Our Patrons are Professor Hugh Pennington and Professor Mike Pittilo, Principal of the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.
Our special National Science and Engineering Week project is "Science Snaps: The Sounds of Scottish Science".
