Event Publicity

It's one thing to have a fantastic branch event but if no one knows about it, your audiences will be disappointing.

Below are a few tips on how to encourage larger audiences...

The guide below was created for National Science and Engineering Week but can be applied in any situation.

Guide to publicising your event (PDF 64K)

Online events programme
All branches can advertise their events on the BA's online events programme

In order to add an event you must first register as an organiser.

Once registered, you will be able to log-in and add your event.

If you have any problems with this, please contact the Regional Programmes Assistant.

Producing a programme
Many Branches put together a year's programme at a time, which can be neatly summarised in a printed programme, together with key contact details.  It helps your Branch build up a following if your events are always on, for example, the second Monday of the month.  Branches are also able to apply for strategic grants to help towards print costs for their programmes.

Use publicity networks
Branch events can be publicised to BA supporters nationwide through the BA-lert e-newsletter which goes out on the second Friday of every month – submissions should be sent to supporters@the-ba.net by the beginning of that week.

Some Regional Officers produce regular newsletters which are a great way to promote all sorts of Branch activities in your area.

You can also ask if you can publicise your event on the internet or internal mail of supportive companies, related science organisations, university departments and other lecture-based groups such as University of Third Age.

Using the BA's website – a space for branches
The BA's website is also a dedicated space for each branch to present itself and its programme.  Please ensure that a committee member has responsibility for keeping an eye on this space and sending any updates or additions to regions@the-ba.net.
