Why should schools take part in National Science and Engineering Week?

Teachers report that science and engineering enrichment activity helps to motivate children and supports their learning and development - as well as being fun! 

Organising a National Science and Engineering Week event can benefit you, your school, your community and the wider public.

Potential benefits include:
• access to a wide range of schools’ NSEW resources
• increasing the profile and publicity for your school
• increased options for funding sources
• building links with the local community
• improving organisational and communication skills of staff and volunteers
• attracting contributions and support

What types of event/activity could you run?

The type of event or activity you run would be entirely up to you and would depend on your own personal interests and the resources at your disposal.

National Science and Engineering Week does not have a theme as such but your event would need to be on a science and/or engineering topic. 

You can find our latest challenge packs and check back later in the year for news of topics that the BA will be focussing on.

Activity ideas include:

• running a carousel of activities from our challenge packs during lesson time/assembly/lunch time/after school 
• organising a quiz between pupils, classes or even teachers
• inviting someone along to your school to give a talk on science and/or engineering topic
• setting up interactive displays, demonstrations and investigations for other classes, for parents or for other schools
• arranging a field trip to a local science centre, museum or university science department
• taking pupils to a public venue, such as a supermarket, park or high street, to set up a display or set of demonstrations for the general public to try
• complete activities towards a CREST Star Investigators award

How can I keep up-to-date with plans for the week?

National Science and Engineering Week is a constantly evolving project with new resources, competitions, activities and opportunities constantly cropping up!
