About the Dana Centre
Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid
Victoria-Alice Porter
From a young age, Dr Victoria-Alice Porter had a fascination with human physiology and anatomy. The desire to understand the capacity of human function inspired her to study Biomedical Sciences at university. She now works with
QinetiQ
as a human physiology researcher and specialises in the high altitude environment.
Alice's work has allowed her to research how performance of individuals at altitude can be supported and improved in both civil and military contexts. Using a hypobaric chamber and a man-rated centrifuge, she has been involved in human trials looking at oxygen delivery, rapid decompression to high altitude, acute mountain sickness and the effects of high g-force on human physiology. Her work now sees her more deeply involved in the operational aspects of QinetiQ business whilst maintaining a strong interest and participation in science promotion and education to encourage public engagement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects.
Alice was involved in the
Space Camp
event at
the Dana Centre
in July 2007
