Peter Naish
Peter Naish is a Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Psychology at the Open University.  He has a long-term interest in fear responses, and for various TV programmes has accompanied people up and down roller coasters, to see what makes them enjoy being frightened on white-knuckle rides, has walked out along the jib of a 200 ft crane with a height phobic, and has helped to carry a 20 ft python into the presence of a snake-phobic!

In more serious vein, he has worked with the military on issues relating to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).  His current area of research is into the nature of hypnosis – a very successful vehicle for treating phobias.  His talk will focus on this area, also drawing out an intriguing link between hypnosis and PTSD.

Peter took part in Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid at the Dana Centre in November 2007.
